Crane Yard Expansion, Hamriyah Free Zone Phase 2 — DBMSC Steel

Crane Yard Expansion, Hamriyah Free Zone Phase 2 — DBMSC Steel
Category: Ongoing Projects

When the UAE’s largest independent structural steel stockholder needed more crane-served yard space, it went back to the contractor that built its first Hamriyah yard. Midas EPC is now delivering the expansion of DBMSC Steel’s gantry crane yard in Hamriyah Free Zone Phase 2, Sharjah — full scope, from foundations and crane bay structures through complete MEP to a Sharjah Civil Defence approved fire fighting system, under a single contract. Ground was broken in September 2026.

Project Facts

  • Client: DBMSC Steel (DBMSC-Steel Trading FZC) — the UAE’s largest independent structural steel stockholder; repeat client
  • Location: Hamriyah Free Zone Phase 2, Sharjah
  • Facility type: Gantry crane yard expansion — open steel-handling yard
  • Status: Ongoing — ground-breaking ceremony held September 2026
  • Scope: Full turnkey scope — civil and structural works for the crane bays and yard platforms; complete MEP; fire fighting system with a 100 GPM fire pump and fire alarm system; HFZA and Sharjah Civil Defence approvals
  • Main contractor: Midas Building Contracting LLC
  • MEP and fire fighting: Midas Electromechanical Contracting LLC — SEWA Grade 1 · Sharjah Civil Defence approved

A Repeat Client and a Bigger Yard

Midas built DBMSC’s first Hamriyah Free Zone yard: 30,000 m² in Block 4G, with three gantry crane bays over 22,936 m² of open asphalt platforms, an office and pump room, a service block and an above-ground GRP fire water tank. That yard has been handling structural steel every working day since handover, and the expansion follows the same logic — more crane-served bays, so more steel can be received, stacked and dispatched without queuing for lifting capacity.

Repeat awards are how industrial contractors are actually judged. The client has watched the foundations, the platforms and the fire systems perform under load, and has commissioned the same team for the next phase.

What Crane Yard Construction Involves

A crane yard is civil engineering measured in millimetres. Gantry crane rails have to run straight and level under full load, which means foundations, crane beams and rail alignment held to tolerances tighter than anything else on an industrial plot. The platforms between the bays take constant point loading from stacked structural steel, so pavement design, sub-base compaction, drainage falls and settlement control decide whether the yard still works in ten years.

An expansion adds one more constraint: the new bays are built beside a live yard. Deliveries, crane movements and stacking continue throughout, so the works are sequenced around DBMSC’s operations rather than the other way round. That is the discipline our industrial civil construction and steel fabrication and erection teams bring to every heavy-handling facility in Sharjah.

Full MEP Scope for a Heavy-Handling Yard

Gantry cranes are among the heaviest electrical loads on any industrial plot. On this expansion the industrial MEP works are delivered by Midas Electromechanical Contracting, the group’s SEWA Grade 1 approved electrical contractor: LV distribution extended from the yard’s existing supply, crane power feeds, yard and high-mast lighting, earthing and lightning protection, and water supply and drainage for the new bays.

Because the electrical, plumbing and fire scopes sit with one division working alongside the civil team, the services are planned into the civil programme rather than bolted on at the end — the usual reason a finished yard stands idle while it waits to be energised.

Fire Fighting Systems by a Civil Defence Approved Contractor

A steel yard is a regulated fire-safety environment under Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Civil Defence, and this expansion adds to a plot that already carries an approved fire water tank and pump room. The fire fighting system for the new bays — built around a 100 GPM fire pump — and the fire alarm system are designed, installed and commissioned by Midas Electromechanical Contracting, a Sharjah Civil Defence approved fire fighting contractor — from drawing approval through pump installation, pipework, testing and the final Civil Defence inspection.

Delivering fire protection inside the same contract as the civil works removes the interface that most often delays a completion certificate: a civil contractor waiting on a separate fire contractor, and both waiting on the authority.

Building in Hamriyah Free Zone Phase 2

Phase 2 is the zone’s newer expansion area, with direct road access to Dubai and the northern emirates. The approval path is the same as anywhere in the zone — HFZA building permit through an approved consultant and Sharjah Civil Defence approval of the fire drawings — and Midas has run it on more than 50 industrial facilities as a contractor in Hamriyah Free Zone. If you are setting up in the zone for the first time, our Hamriyah Free Zone factory setup guide covers permits, utilities and timelines.

One Contract, One Group

The client signs one contract with Midas EPC. Behind it, Midas Building Contracting delivers the civil and structural works, Midas Electromechanical Contracting delivers MEP and fire protection, and the group’s fabrication and technology divisions — Midas Metal Industries and Midas Innovative Technologies — are on call when a project needs them. One programme, one site team, one point of accountability: that is what we mean by turnkey EPC contractor in Sharjah.

Progress

September 2026 — Ground-breaking ceremony held on site with DBMSC Steel and the Midas team. Site mobilisation and enabling works under way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Foundations and crane beams for the gantry rails, heavy-duty yard platforms designed for point loading from stacked steel, drainage, power distribution and crane feeds, yard lighting, earthing, and a fire fighting and fire alarm system approved by Sharjah Civil Defence — on this project a 100 GPM fire pump serves the new bays. All of it is delivered under one contract.

Yes. The new bays are built alongside the working yard, with construction traffic, crane erection and platform works sequenced around the client’s daily deliveries and dispatches so throughput is not interrupted.

Yes. Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and Sharjah Civil Defence regulate fire safety on industrial plots, including open yards. Fire drawings are approved before construction, and the installed system is inspected by Civil Defence before the completion certificate is issued.

Midas Electromechanical Contracting — a SEWA Grade 1 approved electrical contractor and Sharjah Civil Defence approved fire fighting contractor — delivers the electrical, plumbing, fire fighting and fire alarm scopes, under the same contract as the civil and structural works by Midas Building Contracting.
